Residential Building, Nanou, France

The project carried out in Nanou, France, involved the execution of meranti wood joinery for a residential building with traditional architecture, characterized by exposed brick façades and arched window openings, typical of historic buildings in this region.

The joinery was manufactured using the IVLUCA 68 European profile, adapted to the architectural requirements of the building, and includes windows with “hopper-style” opening, complemented by applied cremone fittings, used both as functional and decorative elements in line with the building’s classical architectural expression.

A defining feature of the project is the interior shape of the windows, where the upper section is formed as a segmental arch (flattened arch). Both the frame and the sashes are curved, produced using dedicated templates, faithfully following the geometry of the original masonry openings. The profiling is continuous along the entire perimeter, and the transitions between straight and curved sections are smooth and uninterrupted, reflecting a high level of precision and craftsmanship in laminated timber processing.

The windows feature a two-tone finish, with different treatments on the interior and exterior, addressing both the client’s aesthetic requirements and the need for harmonious integration into the existing urban context. The generous curves, execution details, and carefully controlled proportions help preserve the building’s authentic character without compromising contemporary functional performance.

Through the complexity of execution, attention to detail, and faithful adaptation to the existing architecture, this project highlights LUCA’s capability to deliver laminated timber joinery for residential buildings in historic contexts, with a high degree of customization and execution quality.
